The choice of Colle Bereto, a still undiscovered village in the context of Radda in Chianti, was almost immediate. The charm of a place that remained as it was in the previous century, and still somewhat wild, won us over without any hesitation. It was the late 1970s, and the enthusiasm of the choice made at that time has never waned. Having the opportunity to find ourselves in such a magical and genuine place, we OUR HISTORY Taught us a lot and helped to unite us more and more. To get a good wine takes years of dedication, as the countryside, to return the effort put in, needs time, care and above all, a lot of patience. We thus approached our first major project with even greater commitment and thoroughness. We wanted more than anything to restore dignity to the place that had won us so much, and at the same time to preserve its architectural identity because its origins date back to the 11th century. Even now we are sensitive to making those improvements that serve to make Colle Bereto live in a current context but always respecting its authenticity. The atmosphere here cannot be told, you have to feel it. The cellars were made inside the original structures. Today, after much renovation work, they are still in the same premises but are organized following the most modern winemaking techniques, with drop-transfer procedures that take advantage of the natural slope on which the ancient buildings rest. From the very beginning of the activity, we began to think of a wine that would be identified as belonging to Colle Bereto, regardless of the fashions of the moment or privileged markets. The first production in which we managed to achieve what exactly we wanted with excellent results was 1983. Another success we are particularly fond of was reviving three hectares of land where we restored the crags and dry stone walls of yesteryear. A job that was previously done with a lot of effort, when neither tractors nor other suitable means were available. Since then we have learned a lot, we understood that we wanted to do things seriously and that to obtain excellent wines it took careful selection of grapes as well as the courage to throw away some. Three things are essential for a good wine: a good season, good soil, and someone who, with passion, can take exceptional care of everything, both in the vineyard and in the cellar work. The estate, which is certified organic, currently encompasses 60 hectares, 17 of which are vineyards with a total production of around 80,000 bottles of which about 50,000 are, Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva and Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, made from the noble grape, Sangiovese. The rest are wines made from Pinot Noir and Merlot, with which, respectively we make the two IGTs IL Cenno and Il Tocco. In 2008 we presented the first disgorgement of our Spumante Metodo Classico Rosé, which is called Colle B. Our white wine, on the other hand, is called Albo. With each harvest we try to pay attention to those details that still have room for improvement, aware that one step after another we have accomplished a lot but that there is still much to work on. And we, looking at these lands with the utmost respect, will never stop going in this direction.
