anabasis cantine logo
Anabasis cantine
The winery was born from the dream of young entrepreneur Michelangelo Alagna, who after a course of classical studies, decided to put his degree in archaeology in the drawer to devote himself totally to wine production. The goal is to enhance through wine the resources of the territory and native grape varieties, thanks also to the great cultural heritage of the peasant civilization. So, after taking a second degree in oenology and after years of work experience as an oenologist in several Sicilian wineries, the dream finally became reality: Anabasis was finally born. The company name, as well as the label names, are inspired by classical antiquity. Anabasis, for example, is the title of a Greek work that recounts the exploits of a group of Greek soldiers who carried out a very difficult expedition against the Persian army: literally a "path inward" in an attempt to accomplish a feat, the same one that Michelangelo tries to conduct in the world of wine by relying on the value of people. The winery produces only native Sicilian wines, seeking to maximize the link with the Marsala area, where, a short distance from the coast, the 15 hectares of estate vineyards extend. The sun, the sea, the hills, and the summer dryness are the elements that forge the estate's wines. The grapes are processed in a newly built modern winery, where the owner personally oversees all stages of winemaking. Each label is based on a theme from the ancient world made explicit through images, so tastings involve not only the senses, but also the mind, through a never trivial link between wine and art. There are five wines in the catalog: the Nero d'Avola "Katharsis," which in ancient Greek indicated a spiritual purification ritual that was followed by an inner rebirth. It was the wine that started the adventure; Grillo "Aretè" on the other hand is the wine of virtue, while dry Zibibibbo "Phronesis" is the wine of wisdom and the ability to make the right decision; the Rosé from Nero d'Avola grapes "Euphrosyne" is the wine of the grace that even red grapes are capable of expressing, but also of the joy of living in the midst of nature; finally, "Pathei Mathos," a passito Grillo obtained by natural withering, is the wine of knowledge obtained at great cost through suffering. Classical culture, made up of virtue, knowledge and art is the leitmotif from which all the production draws inspiration. The goal is to translate these values into something concrete: wine.

san felice logo
San felice
Welcome to the ancient Pieve San Felice in Pincis. Its history dates back to Etruscan times. It endured the days of rule by the Papacy, was fought over by the communes of Florence and Siena and has been managed by a succession of local families. The last of these were the Grisaldi Del Taja family, one of the founders of the Chianti Classico Consortium in the first half of the 20th century. A new development model was launched in the 1970s, when the estate was purchased by the Allianz Group with an intention of focusing on wine-making and territorial excellence. The Borgo was fully renovated, with meticulous restoration work to enhance its architectural and artistic features, and, in 1992, it became the only Resort in the Chianti Classico area to be admitted to the international Relais & Châteaux luxury hotel circuit. At the same time, the winery began an extensive vineyard replanting programme with the aim of maximising the value of its Sangiovese grapes. This project was supported by scientific research into native grape varieties, in collaboration with the Universities of Florence and Pisa. The San Felice estates cover a total of approximately 700 hectares, 188 of which are planted with vines, in the three most prestigious production areas in Tuscany: Chianti Classico, Montalcino and Bolgheri. The important acknowledgements received over the years prompted the winery to expand its production areas. This led to the purchase, in 1981, of the Campogiovanni estate in Montalcino, where it began making Brunello, and, in 2016, of the prestigious area in Bolgheri, where the wines of the new Bell’Aja label are made. Today, the Borgo and San Felice are two successful businesses with a shared soul, which unites tradition and innovation.
